WASHINGTON, Dec. 13 -- Sen. Patty Murray, D-Washington, ranking Democratic member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, issued the following statement on the passage of a partisan Higher Education Act, a reauthorization bill:

"You would think Republicans would have learned by now that jamming through partisan bills in the dead of the night is not how people think Congress should work, and yet, that's exactly what House Republicans did last night.
