DUBLIN, Ireland, Dec. 11 -- The Ireland Department of Education and Skills issued the following news release:

Minister for Education & Skills Richard Bruton today announced that a new, examinable Leaving Certificate subject on Physical Education (LCPE) will commence in schools next September. A Framework for Senior Cycle Physical Education (SCPE), which is not for examination, will also be introduced at the same time. Physical Education will still be available to all students.
