Insurance Sweepstakes Scams Surface in Clovis

CLOVIS, Calif., Aug. 31 -- The city of Clovis issued the following news release:
Two Clovis residents today notified their insurance agents of letters and checks they received in what appear to be two different Canadian-based scams. Each came with a cover letter letting the recipient know he or she was one of the winners or a finalist in sweepstakes that the residents did not enter.
Each received a check with "State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company, US . . .
