PEORIA, Ill., Oct. 18 -- The Illinois Board of Education issued the following news release:
Linda Smerge, a second grade teacher at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Cicero, has been named Illinois Teacher of the Year. The Illinois State Board of Education chose Smerge from 9 finalists at the 34th annual Those Who Excel/Illinois Teacher of the Year banquet.
