WASHINGTON, Aug. 15 -- Rep. Jerry F. Costello, D-Ill. (12th CD), issued the following news release:
Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) today urged the Defense Department (DOD) and major airlines to coordinate to end the practice of charging active duty servicemen and women for checked bags during official travel. If charges are to occur, a better system should be devised so soldiers do not have to pay up front and be reimbursed later; DOD should bear these costs.
