University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to Repatriate Human Remains, Funerary Objects to 1 of 53 Native American Tribes
WASHINGTON, Oct. 8 (TNSFR) -- The University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh campus, intends to repatriate human remains representing 26 individuals and 284 associated funerary objects to Native American Tribes.
The remains were removed from the Karow and Cowling Cemetery sites in Winnebago County, Wisconsin. The Karow site was excavated in 1975 and 1984, while burials at Cowling Cemetery were investigated in 1979. The funerary objects include bone artifacts, ceramics, faunal and floral remains, lithics,
