NRC Event Notification: Radioactive Source Secured After Sticking at Electric Boat Facility
WASHINGTON, July 22 -- A radioactive iridium-192 source, with an activity of 19.5 Curies, became stuck during an attempted retraction at the electric boat facility in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, on July 14, 2025. The incident was reported (Event No. 57811) by the Rhode Island Department of Radiological Health. An employee was attempting to retract the source into its exposure device when it stopped halfway.
