Alaska A.G. Taylor: State of Alaska Sues the Feds for Violating Congressional Directive to Develop Resources of 1002 Area
JUNEAU, Alaska, Jan. 8 -- Alaska Attorney General Treg R. Taylor issued the following news release:
The State is suing the federal government for actions in 2024 that violate the statutory mandate of Congress to open oil and gas leasing and development in a section of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge known as the Coastal Plain.
Also called the Section 1002 Area, the 1.5 million acres on Alaska's northern coast was set aside in 1980 by Congress for potential oil and gas development. In 2017,
