Michigan State University to Repatriate Textile Fragment From Sumnerville Mound
WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 (TNSFR) -- Michigan State University has announced its intent to repatriate a preserved textile fragment that was removed from the Sumnerville Mound in Pokagon Township, Cass County, Michigan. The textile, cataloged as item 2002.29.27, was likely taken from the mound in 1888 by Eliot Crane, who distributed the recovered objects to local collectors. Northwestern University to Repatriate Human Remains and Funerary Objects to Native Tribes
WASHINGTON, Jan. 16 (TNSFR) -- Northwestern University has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects and determined a clear cultural affiliation with multiple Native American tribes. The remains, which include bones and fragments from 44 individuals, were excavated from the Fisher Mounds Site in Will County, Illinois, between 1912 and 1941.
