PORTLAND, Oregon, Dec. 20 -- Environment Oregon issued the following news release on Dec. 19, 2024:
Preliminary 2024 data from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries shows 34 whales -- the highest number since 2018 -- became entangled in fishing gear this year off the West Coast, E&E News reported Thursday, citing a NOAA spokesperson.
