WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 -- Rep. Jodey Arrington, R-Texas, chairman of the House Budget Committee, issued the following news release on Aug. 2, 2024:
Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its jobs report for July 2024. The report showed 114,000 new jobs were created in July, 65,000 less than were created in June. The unemployment rate rose for the fourth consecutive month, coming in at 4.3 percent. This is the highest unemployment rate since October 2021.
