WASHINGTON, Aug. 3 -- Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Michigan, issued the following news release on Aug. 2, 2024:
Today, Paul Whelan, along with Americans Evan Gershkovich and Alsu Kurmasheva and U.S. green card holder, Vladimir Kara-Murza, were released from wrongful detention in Russia.
Whelan, a security executive from Novi, MI, was sentenced to 16 years in prison on false charges of espionage. He has been detained for more than 2,000 days.
