Va. U.S. Attorney: Repeat Fraudster Sentenced for Leading Pandemic Fraud Conspiracy

NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia, July 10 -- The office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia issued the following news release on July 9, 2024:

A Hampton woman was sentenced today to five years in prison for identity theft and leading a conspiracy to defraud the government and financial institutions for pandemic-related loans and other benefits.

According to court documents, Lapondia Wallace, 53, was responsible for at least 22 fraudulent pandemic loan applic . . .
