WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 -- The Sierra Club issued the following statement on Dec. 18, 2023:

This month, the Department of the Interior approved a final five-year plan for offshore oil and gas leasing. The plan schedules three oil-and-gas auctions, scheduled to be held in 2025, 2027, and 2029. The plan had originally considered up to 10 offshore sales in the Gulf of Mexico, eventually settling on three.
