DALLAS, Texas, Nov. 6 -- The American Heart Association issued the following news release:

Research Highlights:

When someone experiences a cardiac arrest, their heart stops and they often lose some degree of brain function, either temporarily or long-term, making it necessary for someone to make decisions for them.

Family members of people who survive cardiac arrest are often quickly placed in a position to make decisions concerning their loved one's medica . . .
