INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 1 -- The Indiana Senate Republicans issued the following news release:
A bill authored by State Sen. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) that would authorize the city of Jasper to adopt a 1% food and beverage tax passed the Senate Monday by a vote of 46-3.
Senate Bill 428 would allow Jasper to fund a sports and aquatic center in the city.
Similar taxes have been implemented in 53 other communities throughout Indiana.
