WASHINGTON, May 14 -- Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-New York, issued the following statement:

"The current situation in Israel and Gaza is untenable and unacceptable and every life is valuable. Too many lives have been lost - including Israeli and Palestinian children - and we need to restore calm.
"On May 10, after clashes between Israeli police and Palestinian protestors at Al Aqsa Mosque, Hamas began indiscriminately firing hundreds of unguided . . .
