NEW YORK, July 17 -- The American Civil Liberties Union, a 501(c)3 non-profit that works to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the U.S., issued the following statement by Director Cassandra Stubbs:
The federal government carried out the execution of Wes Purkey this morning just before 8:30 a.m. ET, despite pending litigation about his competency to be executed - a claim that no court ultimately heard before his executio . . .
