WASHINGTON, July 9 -- Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-New York, chairwoman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, issued the following statement on July 8 after the Government Accountability Office released a report on the federal National Instant Criminal Background Check System:
"The national criminal background check system saves lives by preventing guns from being purchased by those who shouldn't have them, but it is only as good as the information our government agencies put . . .
