BETHESDA, Maryland, June 22 -- The National Association of Community Health Centers issued the following statement:
We mark an important milestone in our nation's path toward change and equality. On this day in 1865, two years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, the slaves of Galveston, Texas finally learned that the Civil War was over and they were free. Yet, on this Juneteenth we reflect with heavy hearts that the promise of freedom, equality and justice . . .
