WASHINGTON, June 10 -- Rep. Donald M. Payne Jr., D-New Jersey, issued the following statement regarding the Justice in Policing Act:
The bill (H.R. 7120) would establish a national standard for the operation of police departments, mandate data collection on police encounters, reallocate funds to transformative community-based policing programs, streamline federal law to prosecute excessive force, and establish independent prosecutors for police investigations.
