AUSTIN, Texas, June 4 -- The Texas State Teachers Association issued the following statement on June 3 by President Noel Candelaria:
As we grieve the tragic death of George Floyd, another, unarmed black man who died in police custody, we need to do more than protest in the streets. Peaceful protest is necessary, but it is not enough. We have been protesting the deaths and abusive mistreatment of black men and women (remember Sandra Bland?) as well as native and other people of color . . .
