WASHINGTON, May 27 -- Reps. Eliot L. Engel, D-New York, and Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman and ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following joint statement on May 26 calling on Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime to release Paul Whelan, a U.S. citizen wrongfully imprisoned in Russia:
