WASHINGTON, May 27 -- Reps. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, and Eliot L. Engel, D-New York, ranking member and chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following joint statement on May 26 calling on Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime to release Paul Whelan, a U.S. citizen wrongfully imprisoned in Russia:
