NEW YORK, Feb. 6 -- The International Rescue Committee issued the following news release:

As hostilities continue to escalate in northwest Syria, eight aid agencies are making an urgent call for an immediate ceasefire as they warn that hundreds of thousands of people - the majority of them women and children - fleeing the unrelenting violence are caught in a humanitarian catastrophe.
