NYPD Announces Citywide Crime Statistics for January 2020

NEW YORK, Feb. 5 -- The New York City Police Department issued the following news release:
Through January 31, 2020, index crime in New York City saw an overall +16.9% increase when compared to the same period in 2019. There was a decline in the number of murders this month and the city saw a +28.8% increase in shooting incidents. Burglary, assault, grand larceny, and grand larceny auto saw increases. The city experienced a -24% decrease in hate crimes through February 2.
