NEW YORK, Feb. 4 -- Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health issued the following news:
For Black women, New York City is one of the scariest places one could give birth. Black women in New York City are eight times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women. In central Brooklyn, a predominately Black area with the city's highest rates of maternal mortality and morbidity rates, the nearest hospitals rank worst in the city for maternal harm. . . .
