WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 -- Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-New York, issued the following floor remarks on Jan. 27:

Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), lead House sponsor of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), took to the House floor this evening to recognize and congratulate Virginia for becoming the 38th state to ratify the ERA.

"I rise to congratulate leaders in Virginia for their historic vote to become the 38th state to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment today.
