Before I ever imagined becoming a member of Congress, I was a small business owner in Fort Worth who enjoyed being active in my community, initially through the Zoning Commission and later on City Council. I knew then what I still know today: my hometown is a place where neighbors will help neighbors. As mayor of Fort Worth, I was able to witness the huge impact of small community acts.
