WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 -- Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas, issued the following statement regarding the vote on the resolution (H.Res. 296) affirming the U.S. record on the Armenian genocide:
"For too long the U.S. government has fallen short of calling the slaughter of millions of innocent Armenians what it is - a genocide.
"As Turkey falls further into the grips of an authoritarian dictator who actively seeks to limit the freedom of speech, we celebrate ours.
