WASHINGTON, Oct. 15 -- Rep. Eliot Engel, D-New York, issued the following statement on plans to close the Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital:
"Recently, my office was alerted to plans by Montefiore to close the Montefiore Mount Vernon Hospital and open a new $41 million facility on Sandford Boulevard. In response to this news, I spoke yesterday with Montefiore President Steve Safyer who confirmed these plans, which are set to take roughly 14 months to complete, and he assured me . . .
