WASHINGTON, Oct. 1 -- Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, ranking Republican member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, issued the following statement on the 70th anniversary of the People's Republic of China:
"Since the People's Republic of China was founded 70 years ago, it has functioned as an authoritarian state that seeks to control, by force if necessary, every aspect of its people's lives.
