WASHINGTON, Sept. 30 -- Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyoming, chairman of the House GOP Conference, issued the following statement after Rep. Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, ranking Republican member of the House Armed Services Committee, announced that he would be retiring at the end of his current congressional term:
