MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Florida, Aug. 23 -- The U.S. Air Force (6th Air Mobility Wing) issued the following news:
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the unit presently designated the 6th Air Mobility Wing. In 1944, the 6th Bombardment Group reactivated to support the air offensive against Japan.
As part of the 20th Air Force, the Group's B-29 Superfortress aircraft relocated to North Field on the small island of Tinian to strike major targets in Japan.
