NEW YORK, Aug. 6 -- The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund issued the following statement by President and Director-Counsel Sherrilyn Ifill:
Toni Morrison, The first Black woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature and author of celebrated novels 'Song and Solomon' and Pulitzer Prize winning 'Beloved', as well as many children's books and essay collections, passed away in New York City at the age of 88.
