WASHINGTON, July 30 -- Sen. Jack Reed, D-Rhode Island, ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following opening statement at a committee hearing on the nomination of Gen. John Hyten to be vice chairman of Joint Chiefs of Staff:
