NEW YORK, July 29 -- The Food Bank For New York City issued the following statement by President and CEO Margarette Purvis:
"The proposed policy changes to SNAP benefits would have a devastating impact on thousands of food insecure New Yorkers, forcing them out of supermarkets and into soup kitchens and food pantries.
"Roughly 1.6 million New Yorkers rely on SNAP, which is a vital resource both for families in need as well as the economic health of our city.
