WASHINGTON, July 23 -- Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tennessee, issued the following statement on his vote to confirm Army Secretary Mark Esper to serve as Secretary of Defense:
"Secretary Esper - who is a West Point graduate, combat veteran, and dedicated public servant - is the right person to lead the Department of Defense during such a critical time in our nation.
