Annual Vital Statistics Data Show Fewer Premature Deaths and Fewer Births in New York City in 2017

NEW YORK, July 8 -- The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene issued the following news release:

- Premature mortality has decreased 2.4% between 2016 and 2017 following an increase between 2015 and 2016. Since 2008, premature mortality has fallen by 14.9%.

- Teen birth rates fell 56.2% over the last 10 years. The citywide birth rate has declined by 3.5% from 2016 - a steeper decline from previous years.
