WASHINGTON, June 28 -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, issued the following statement in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising that took place outside New York's Stonewall Inn on June 28, 1969:
"Fifty years ago, the Stonewall Inn was transformed from a safe haven for the LGBTQ community to enjoy a night out and be themselves into a global symbol of defiance and pride. In the early morning hours, LGBTQ Americans, fed up with the constant haras . . .
