WASHINGTON, June 27 -- Rep. Vicente Gonzalez, D-Texas, issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's ruling on the case of Department of Commerce vs. New York:
"The Administration's decision to include a citizenship status question in the upcoming 2020 Census was meant to suppress the participation of people living in regions like ours and reduce the political representation of people in South and Central Texas.
