WASHINGTON, June 18 -- Rep. Steve Womack, R-Arkansas, issued the following statement on the announcement of President Trump that Secretary of the Army Mark Esper will assume the role of acting secretary of defense:
"Mark Esper is an outstanding choice to serve as Acting Secretary of Defense. He is a proven leader who has served in uniform and has a deep understanding of defense, readiness, and security issues.
