IMF Issues Statement on Algeria Visit

WASHINGTON, March 12 -- The International Monetary Fund issued the following statement by team leader Jean-Francois Dauphin during a visit to Algiers, Algeria, on Feb. 27-March 12 to discuss the 2018 Article IV consultation:
"Algeria continues to face important challenges posed by the fall in oil prices four years ago. Despite a sizeable fiscal consolidation in 2017, the fiscal and current account deficits remain large. Reserves, while still ample, fell by US$17 billion to US$9 . . .
