BROOKINGS, S.D., Oct. 1 -- South Dakota State University issued the following news release:

Dr. Carol Peterson, the chief academic officer at South Dakota State University since 1987, has announced her decision to resign as provost and vice president for academic affairs, effective at the end of the current academic year, and will start a transition toward retirement in 2010.
