WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 -- Rep. Kweisi Mfume, D-Md., has introduced legislation (H.R. 8971) to "establish a National Council on African American History and Culture within the National Endowment for the Humanities."

Rep. Sherrill Introduces Bill to Award Congressional Gold Medal to Donut Dollies
WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 -- Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-N.J., has introduced legislation (H.R. 8978) to "award a Congressional Gold Medal to members of the Red Cross Supplemental Recreational Activities Overseas (SRAO) program, also known as the Donut Dollies, who served honorably during the Vietnam conflict."
The bill was introduced on Sept. 22. It was jointly referred to the House Financial Services and Administration committees.

Sen. Burr Introduces Bill on Establishment of Firewood Banks
WASHINGTON, Sept. 25 -- Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., has introduced legislation (S. 4944) to "provide for the operation and establishment of, and procurement of supplies for, firewood banks."
