SPRINGFIELD, Ill., July 20 -- The Southern Illinois University School of Medicine issued the following news release:
Pioneering herpes researcher William Halford, PhD, age 48, has passed away after a five-year battle with cancer. He was associate professor in the Department of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Cell Biology. His dedication to research and his compassion for patients led to his unstoppable drive to prove and test his vaccine for the herpes virus.
