New York Inventors Develop Audio-Visual Speech Recognition System

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 3 -- Gerasimos Potamianos and Etienne Marcheret, both of White Plains, N.Y., Jonathan H. Connell of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., Norman Haas of Mount Kisco, N.Y., and Chalapathy Venkata Neti of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., have developed an audio-visual speech recognition system.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, the invention relates to "techniques for performing audio-visual speech recognition, with improved recognition performance, in a degraded visual . . .
