New York Inventors Develop Femtosecond Ytterbium Fiber Laser

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 3 -- Frank W.Wise, Fatih Omer Ilday and Hyungsik Lim, all from Ithaca, N.Y., have developed short-pulse fiber lasers.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A photonic-crystal fiber provides dispersion compensation in a soliton fiber laser.
