Trade Policy Uncertainty Drives 5.6% Drop in New Motorcoach Sales
Year-over-year decline undermines U.S. Jobs and Transportation Readiness

The American Bus Association (ABA), the leading voice in North America's motorcoach, charter bus, group travel and tourism industries, today announced the Second Quarter 2025 Motorcoach Builders Survey. The survey, which is produced by the ABA's research arm, the American Bus Association Foundation, produces the report each quarter with data collectedfrom surveys of the major motorcoach manufacturers that sell vehicles in the United States and Canada.
Figure 1: New and Pre-owned Total Sales, 2022-2025
This quarter, the participating manufacturers sold 453 new and 57 pre-owned coaches, for a total of 510 motorcoaches. This compares with 480 during the second quarter of 2024. Sales of new motorcoaches have decreased by 5.6% compared to the same quarter in 2024, with the sale of pre-owned motorcoaches 26.9% lower.
"After a rebound in 2024, the motorcoach industry is now facing a slowdown in new vehicle sales," said Fred Ferguson, President & CEO of the American Bus Association. "The larger trade policy shifts have triggered cost increases across our supply chain, injected policy uncertainty into the marketplace, and reduced buyer confidence at the very moment the industry was regaining its footing."
Figure 3: New Total Sales by Buying Entity, 2022-2025
Figure 2: Total Sales, % Change from 2019, 2022-2025
Ferguson continued: "Deferred equipment purchases mean that vital safety and efficiency innovations--from lower-emission engines to collision mitigation technologies--are being kept off American roads. This doesn't just impact passengers--it compromises the readiness of a strategic transportation reserve that supports troop movements, disaster recovery, and affordable inter-city mobility. If demand continues to weaken, the ripple effects will be felt by the more than 500,000 Americans who power the group travel economy and by U.S.-based manufacturers that produce the engines, transmissions, and parts essential to our fleet."
According to the data, Q2 2025 data show a 19.3% decrease compared to the same quarter in 2019. While Q4 2024 had shown a somewhat stronger recovery, with a smaller percentage decrease from the 2019 baseline, Q1 and Q2 2025 demonstrate a step back.
Sales to both private and public entities decreased in Q2 compared to the same quarter in 2024, increasing by 5.2 and 16.7%, respectively.

Our thoughts are with the dedicated staff of the CDC, members of the Emory University community and the family and friends of the slain officer, but they deserve more than thoughts and prayers. They deserve our support and we must all work together to make their community, and every community, a healthy and safe environment for all.
Reportsof the shooter's alleged motive are very concerning and highlight the inherent danger and human cost of disinformation surrounding life-saving vaccines and other evidence-based protections. As we wait to learn more, we must emphasize that disinformation negatively affects our health and makes us less safe.
Let us ensure this attack on the CDC, a beacon for science and knowledge, is a rallying point for support for this critical institution and all those who dedicate their lives to improving our health. And let us make the death of the officer, who was rushing to protect people, a reminder of the terrible epidemic of gun violence that continues to threaten communities across the nation.
APHA is fighting back against threats to public health. See what we're doing.

On a Historic Day for Advanced Aviation, AUVSI Applauds Executive Orders Advancing U.S. Leadership in Drones
On Friday afternoon, President Trump signed two sweeping executive orders focused on strengthening U.S. leadership in uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS, or drones). These actions aim to streamline rulemaking for enabling regulations, fortify domestic supply chains and promote manufacturing, advance security measures, and align federal operations with emergingaviation technologies.
The Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) applauds the Administration's commitment to advancing drone integration through timely, coordinated federal action. These Executive Orders mark a significant step toward reducing regulatory uncertainty, accelerating innovation and manufacturing, and reinforcing U.S. competitiveness in the global autonomy race.
Today is a historic day for the drone industry in the United States. The White House Executive Orders issued today showcase that drones are critical to American economic strength, national security, and global leadership" said Michael Robbins, AUVSI's President & CEO. "AUVSI commends the Trump Administration for advancing policies that will ensure U.S. leadership in drone innovation, security, operations, and manufacturing. As we have long advocated, innovation and security must advance in lockstep, and President Trump got that right with these Executive Orders. By prioritizing long-overdue drone enabling rules and much needed security reforms, the Administration is accelerating the safe and responsible growth of the drone industry at a pivotal moment."
Among the key provisions of the executive orders:
* BVLOS Expansion and Drone Integration Acceleration: Directs the FAA to enable routine Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations for commercial and public safety missions, and to accelerate development, testing, and scaling of U.S. drone technologies, including advanced air mobility and autonomous systems.
* Updated UAS Integration Roadmap: Calls for the FAA to publish a revised roadmap for the integration of civil UAS into the National Airspace System, reflecting updated capabilities and timelines.
* Domestic Drone Industrial Base Strengthening: Prioritizes U.S.-manufactured UAS in federal procurement, promotes their export, and takes steps to protect critical drone technologies from foreign exploitation.
* Supporting the Warfighter and Airspace Access: Improves access to high-performance, U.S.-made drones for military use and streamlines airspace and spectrum access to better support national security missions.
* Detection and Tracking Authorities & Grants: Authorizes federal agencies to use existing legal authorities to detect, track, and identify drones and drone signals; and allows state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) agencies to access grant programs for related detection technologies.
* Private Critical Infrastructure Detection Guidance: Mandates publication of federal guidance to assist private critical infrastructure owners and operators in deploying drone detection systems safely and effectively.
* Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) Integration Pilot: Establishes an eVTOL integration program, selecting at least five pilot projects to advance vertical mobility use cases such as cargo transport and medical response.
AUVSI has long advocated for many of these reforms through active engagement with the White House, public comments, Congressional testimony, and federal agency engagement. Earlier this week, AUVSI's Michael Robbins testified before the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee during a hearing titled "FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024: Stakeholder Perspectives One Year Later," where he underscored the urgency of BVLOS rulemaking, clear procurement guidance, and expanded training resources for local authorities and first responders.
An outpouring of support from AUVSI member companies highlights the strong industry consensus on the Executive Orders and their significance for the future of autonomous aviation.
* David Carbon, Vice President and General Manager of Amazon Prime Air, said, "Amazon remains committed to supporting the safe and scalable integration of drones into the national airspace. We firmly believe in maintaining a high safety and regulatory bar, which is essential for building public trust and fostering innovation in this transformative technology, and we applaud President Trump and Secretary of Transportation Duffy for their leadership in prioritizing policies and regulations that will enable commercial drone operations to scale in the United States. The focus on advancing regulations for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) commercial drone operations is particularly crucial, as it will provide much-needed regulatory certainty for operators.''
* Matt McCrann, CEO of DroneShield LLC, said, "Executive action that broadens counter-drone authorities is a critical step forward in safeguarding our national airspace and increasing the safety and security of the homeland. By expanding the capabilities of trusted agencies and security stakeholders, we're better equipped to respond to evolving threats and ensure the safety of our communities, infrastructure, and public events. These orders help close longstanding security gaps and empower innovation in uncrewed systems, airspace awareness and defense."
* Todd Graetz, CEO of Aerolane, Founding Member of the Drone Advisory Committee and the Advanced Aviation Advisory Committee, and Committee Co-Chair of the BVLOS Advisory and Rulemaking Committee, said, "The United States is still at the forefront of safe and innovative aviation but in order to continue this trajectory, we need leadership from the White House, DOT and FAA to continue our march towards expansion of BVLOS drones, and the Part 108 NPRM is critical. The Trump Administration has proven a willingness to drive innovation. The NPRM, combined with Export Policy Modernization and a scaling of Domestic UAS Industry Support will keep our country at the vanguard of aviation innovation."
* Peter Fuchs, CEO of Ascent AeroSystems, said, "These executive actions mark a decisive commitment by the White House to secure America's drone industrial base--but lasting impact will depend on whether the rest of government follows through with the coordinated demand, reformed procurement processes, and streamlined operational approvals needed to translate policy into a sustainable strategic capability."
* Zohar Halachmi, CEO and Chairman of D-Fend Solutions, said, ""D-Fend Solutions commends President Trump's dedicated efforts to proactively address the increasing threat of illicit drone activity in the United States. These executive orders are a crucial step in ensuring the protection of our national security, critical infrastructure, and the safety of the public.""

Clean Fuels Asks EPA to Sustain Robust Biomass-based Diesel Volumes in 2026-27 RFS
WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Clean Fuels Alliance America filed comments on the Environmental Protection Agency's Proposed Renewable Fuel Standards for 2026 and 2027. Clean Fuels expressed appreciation for EPA's intent to provide consistent RFS growth in recognition of U.S. farmers', feedstock providers', and biomass-based diesel producers' investments in new capacity.
EPA proposes a robust step-changein biomass-based diesel and advanced biofuel volumes beginning in 2026. The agency projects the requirement to reach 5.61 billion gallons in 2026 - more than two billion gallons higher than in 2025. According to an EPA fact sheet, "These volume requirements, if finalized, will protect investments made by American corn and soybean growers, oilseed processors, and biodiesel and renewable diesel producers, whose products are critical to our country's energy security and keeping rural economies strong."
"The proposal is a welcome signal to U.S. farmers and biofuel producers, and we are ready to meet these higher volumes with domestically produced fuel," Clean Fuels writes in its comments. "We ask that the final rule sustain the volumes as proposed to ensure that our capacity is fully utilized. These volumes are readily achievable, based on current domestic production and investments that have been made."
Clean Fuels' comments.
https://cleanfuels.org/wp-content/uploads/Clean-Fuels-Comments-on-RFS-2026-and-2027.pdfKurt Kovarik, Clean Fuels' Vice President of Federal Affairs, added, "Domestic production of biodiesel and renewable diesel doubled since 2020 and continues to grow. The industry supplied more than 5 billion gallons of biodiesel, renewable diesel and SAF to the U.S. market in 2024, and we are poised to deliver more in 2026. Clean fuel production is essential to farm security, supporting 10 percent of the value of every bushel of U.S. soybeans."
"EPA is proposing many changes to the program and expressing the RVO in RIN-gallons rather than physical gallons," Kovarik continued. "We ask that EPA follow through on its intent to support our industry's investments in domestic fuel production by maintaining robust volumes even if some parts of the proposal are not finalized. We also urge EPA to ensure that the step-change in volumes is not eroded by small refinery exemptions."

Congratulations to the research teams at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Elaine Marieb Center forNursing and Engineering Innovation at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and the University of Maryland.
CHOP Study on Bag Mask Ventilation of Pediatric Patients
Elizabeth Hyde, MD, MSE, FAAP, Pediatric Critical Care Fellow Physician at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), will lead a team of researchers to fill a gap in the literature of an objective, reliable, bag mask valve (BMV) quality in pediatric patients.
This study is of immense importance, as bag mask valve ventilation is a cornerstone of life-threatening respiratory failure management and a critical step prior to safe placement of a breathing tube, or intubation. Further, respiratory failure is the leading cause for admission to pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) and impacts over 40,000 children in the United States annually.
The technique for BMV use involves fitting a mask over the patient's face and manually delivering breaths by squeezing a bag. Failure to provide high-quality BMV ventilation dramatically increases the risk of complications during intubation, ranging in severity from low oxygen levels to cardiac arrest. Building on existing academic literature, this study aims to pioneer a machine-learning-driven BMV assessment tool that can provide an objective measure of BMV quality for pediatric patients. This study is expected to be completed by mid-2026.
University of Massachusetts Amherst Researchers to Study IV Infusion and Smart Pumps
Researchers at the Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, led by Karen Giuliano, PhD, RN, MBA, will produce novel research to help improve the practice of IV infusion.

AAMC Statement on Executive Order on Federal Grantmaking
The AAMC is deeply concerned by the executive order issued on Aug. 7, 2025, which seeks to make detrimental changes in how federal grants are reviewed, awarded, and terminated. This misguided order will slow progress for cures and treatments that patients and families across the country urgently need by delaying critical research with problematic political and bureaucratic hurdles.
The United States leads the worldin medical research and innovation, due in large part to a science-driven federal research enterprise that funds the most promising research identified through rigorous peer review. This system has produced lifesaving cures to health issues, advanced therapies and treatments, and led to critical health discoveries that benefit all Americans.
"This order opens the door for politics to override science, suggesting grants should be awarded or terminated based on subjective political judgments rather than scientific merit," said David J. Skorton, MD, AAMC president and CEO. "Such changes undermine the independent review and stable and predictable funding process that biomedical research requires to succeed."
The order will create significant bureaucratic bottlenecks in the grant review and approval process, slowing the pace of innovation and introducing political preferences as part of the approval process. At the same time, the order seeks to limit funding for the full costs of conducting research such as state-of-the-art research laboratories, high-speed data processing, and compliance with national security protections and patient safety protocols. This will weaken the ability of institutions to maintain essential research infrastructure.
The AAMC urges policymakers and administration officials to uphold the integrity of the federal research funding process. Science thrives when it is driven by transparency, peer review, and evidence - not politics.

"Reimagine, Reinvent, Redefine": ICCFA Announces 2025 Leadership Summit in Knoxville This October
The International Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association (ICCFA) is pleased to announce the upcoming 2025 ICCFA Leadership Summit, taking place October 21-23 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Smoky Mountains, this year's event promises an immersive, off-site experience focused on transformation, community, and the future of deathcare.
The 2025 Summit embraces the theme "Reimagine, Reinvent, Redefine," inviting leaders of all levels across the profession to take part in a bold exploration of what deathcare can become. Through hands-on education, peer connection, and experiential learning, the ICCFA Leadership Summit is not just a meeting--it's a movement.
"Today's families are asking for more, and this Summit is about equipping leaders to meet those needs with courage and creativity," said ICCFA Executive Director Nadira Baddeliyanage. "From hospitality to aftercare to reimagining cemetery spaces, we're challenging the status quo and inspiring action."
"This is not your traditional hotel ballroom conference," added Summit Co-Chair Lori Bolton, CSE, CXE. "We're stepping into real-life spaces with real-life challenges and innovations. Attendees will leave Knoxville energized and ready to make meaningful changes in their own firms."
The Summit kicks off Tuesday, October 21, with two unique networking excursions: a golf tournament at Egwani Farms and a whiskey tasting and lunch at Company Distilling. That evening, the Welcome Reception brings attendees together for relaxed networking and reconnection before the next day's full educational experience.
On Wednesday, October 22, the spotlight turns to Smith Life & Legacy in nearby Maryville, Tennessee. The full-day off-site program--"Reimagining Funeral and Cemetery Service"--invites attendees to step inside a campus that's actively redefining deathcare through design, culture, and experience.
The morning begins with immersive experiences, including a symbolic Funeral for the Traditional Funeral and a soulful Celebration of Life at the Pavilion led by Lacy Robinson (Johnson Consulting Group & Worsham Mortuary College). These moments set the tone for a transformative day of learning. Throughout the afternoon, attendees will dive into sessions like Why Hospitality? Reimagining the Funeral Experience with Lee Longino (SCI), where the shift toward customer-centered facility design will be explored, and The Celebration Journey with Brooke Heldman (Dignity Memorial), offering practical strategies for building trust and crafting meaningful events. Attendees will also hear from Christopher Griffiths (JST Architects) on how to convert funeral facilities into mixed-use properties, rethinking space and revenue models for the modern era.
The program continues at nearby Grandview Cemetery and Pavilion with a session titled Cemeteries Are Dying presented by Dr. Jason Troyer and co-chair Dr. C. Lynn Gibson, DPHIL, CFSP. The day then moves into rotating breakout experiences covering reimagined aftercare, legacy building, and innovative approaches to community engagement. A group reflection led by Gibson will bring the day's education to a powerful close before the evening reception in downtown Knoxville.
"This Summit isn't about talking about change--it's about seeing it in action," said Gibson. "The Smith campus is proof that innovation is possible, profitable, and deeply meaningful."
On Thursday, October 23, the Summit wraps up with the Government & Legal Committee Meeting & Update, led by Christie Toson, CCE, and Poul Lemasters, Esq. In what has been one of the most active years for legislation affecting the profession, this session offers timely updates and space for critical discussion on both federal and state-level developments.
"This year's Leadership Summit is an invitation to rethink what's possible," said ICCFA President Robert Gordon, Jr., CCE. "When we gather like this--on the ground, in real spaces, with bold ideas--the future comes into focus. We leave not just inspired but equipped."
Registration is now open, with early bird rates available through September 19 and online registration closing October 15.
