ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 8 -- Covidien, Switzerland, has been assigned a patent (7,988,651) developed by Gordon Cook, Hampshire, United Kingdom, and Graeme Follett, Hampshire, United Kingdom, for an "inflatable device for use in impulse therapy."

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A device for use in applying impulse therapy to a limb of a human body and including an inflatable bladder or pad that has opposing hermetically sealed fir . . .
